This Thursday, January 8th, residents from across Hawaiʻi will come together at the Hawai'i State Capitol to engage with lawmakers and talk about reforms that strengthen transparency, accountability, and public participation in our legislative process.

This day is about civic engagement and working to make sure our government systems are clear, accessible, and responsive to the people they serve.

Good Governance Day is organized by the Hawaiʻi Alliance for Progressive Action, and supported by a broad coalition of community organizations, including Our Hawaiʻi, ACLU of Hawaiʻi, Clean Elections Coalition, Common Cause Hawaiʻi, 350 Hawaiʻi, Greenpeace Hawaiʻi, HULI PAC, Kokua Council, and the Chamber of Sustainable Commerce.

Together, we are focused on five Good Governance priorities:

  • Protecting election integrity and expanding voter access.

  • Expanding publicly funded elections.

  • Closing campaign finance loopholes.

  • Curbing the influence of big money in elections.

  • Strengthening civics education.

These priorities are about building public trust and supporting a democratic system that works for everyone.

Starting at 9 AM, in conference room 325, we will hold an informal briefing before scheduled meetings with lawmakers between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM. Lunch is included.

At 2 PM, we will gather in the rotunda to hear from the Good Government Caucus and coalition parters on their 2026 legislative priorities. We will also be providing an update on the House Rules process and hear an update about the petition submitted to the legislature to investigate a $35,000 bribe.

If you’d like to be apart of learning about these reforms and meeting with lawmakers, please sign up at bit.ly/ggday2026
